I had to give up on the IBM token ring cards (specifically Auto 4/16) because
they would not go into promiscous mode.  I switched to a Madge card, and all
worked fine.  This was on Linux and not NT, but it seems to be a hardware thing.

Is the adapter that you are using capable of going into promiscuous mode?  Few
IBMs are.....
